The Josephine Underskirt is the basis of your perfect Victorian costume whether you are gothic, neo-Victorian or steampunk and it is a flexible piece that can be worn on its own or teamed with different bustle overskirts to give you different options for the changing silhouette between 1868-1875 and 1880-1892. This is one item you simply have to have in your costuming wardrobe!
The skirt shape is based on the 1880s style, flat at the front with side pleating and gathering at the back which gives plenty of volume to wear a bustle pad too if desired. It is designed to be worn under one of our bustle overskirts and the photos show it with the Parlour Bustle . Alternatively wear it without a bustle overskirt for a less fussy look - great with an underbust corset/ swiss waist and high necked blouse. The back hem is approx. 6"/15cm longer than the front and creates an elegant sweeper train when not worn with a bustle pad.
The fabric shown is high quality, silk effect, polyester taffeta which is luxurious, but also easy to care for. Please bear in mind the pale colours such as white, ivory, pale ivory and magnolia can appear a little bit sheer so I would recommend wearing a white petticoat underneath. This will also give you much better period shaping in general.
This skirt can also be worn with a small elliptical crinoline for a passable late 1860s silhouette.

If you will wear a corset and petticoat underneath - please provide your measurements while wearing these. Please also measure to the floor for length - I will deduct the necessary amount at the front for you to walk comfortably.
